In our quest to ensure maximum discipline, Senior High/Senior High Technical Schools are to select Dean of Discipline to drive the effort of promoting culture of discipline in our schools.

JOB BRIEF

T The Dean of Discipline helps lead the efforts to build and maintain a strong, positive goal-oriented school culture. The Dean of Discipline manages the positive behavioral change programmes for the school and models how to establish strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and the school community.

Reports to: Headmaster/Headmistress

QUALIFICATIONS

A professional teacher not below the rank of Assistant Director Il with not less than 5 years teaching experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. SCHOOL CULTURE:

The Dean works to define and build a transformative school culture consistent with the core values of the Ghana Education Service.

IL STUDENT MANAGEMENT:

The Dean (in collaboration with guidance and counseling coordinator) implements behavior management tools, including overseeing staff training in behavior management policies, techniques, and strategies, and ensuring the consistent deployment of such tools school-wide, meets with students referred by teachers for behavioral problems, communicates and meets with the student’s parents/ guardians, and ensures that consequences for infractions are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school; creates and executes a detention system for homework completion and behavior, looks for patterns of misbehavior and coordinates appropriate measures as needed with the school leader and other leadership staff, responds to acute behavioral issues, coordinates in-school and out-of-school suspensions, ensuring regulatory compliance; and oversees schoolsafety

III. STAFF RESOURCE PERSON:

The Dean serves as a resource (person)to teachers and fellows(colleagues) on issues of school culture, classroom management, discipline, and relationships with students; and coaches’ teachers, tutors and staff in holding all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations.

IV. STUDENT MOTIVATION:

The Dean communicates with students- meeting with, listening to seeking to understand, and convincing them as appropriate and builds a support network for students. In addition to meeting with students, the Dean will develop school- wide programmes to incentivize positive behaviors and create a school-wide identity among the students. The Dean will work closely with cross-campus teams to cultivate students cultural competency, growth, and development

V. ADDRESS STUDENT NEEDS

The Dean helps respond to students’ needs, collaborate with different departments to plan social programmes for students.

VI. DOCUMENTING INCIDENTS:

The Dean implements and ensures the school-wide use of information technology tools for reporting and documenting infractions, and ensures that proper records on communications with parents regarding

discipline are kept. The Dean works with staff to ensure school compliance with Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) policies.

EXPECTATION

It is the expectation of Management of the Service that the Deans of Discipline would appreciate and diligently play their roles to promote culture of discipline in all Pre-Tertiary Schools
