INVITATION TO A MEETING
We write to inform you, that at our last meeting with the Government Team led by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on 14th December, 2023, and a subsequent one with the Employer, the following were the issues discussed.
The Ground Rules
The Non-financials
The Financials
It would interest you to know, that the meeting(s) thrashed out the Ground Rules and the Non- financial items. The outstanding thus, was the Financials. Even with the Financials, we came down from the fifteen (15) Allowances submitted, to the following:
CPD
Deprive Area Allowance
Teaching/Assessment Allowance
Housing/Rent Allowance
Utility Subsidy
Transport/Commuting Allowance
These we submitted to the Government Side to go work on, and get back to us for discussion. As we write, the Government Side has not gotten back to us, and we deem this unfortunate.
Now to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and its Press Release of 20th March, 2024, titled “Government Continues to Show Good Faith Towards Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions (GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT) In the Public Sector”, in which it states as follows:
At the meeting held with the Teacher Unions on 20th January, 2024, the Government Team was able to reach an agreement with the Teacher Unions on ten (10) out of the sixteen (16) items submitted for negotiations,
and react to it as follows:
The ten (10) items on which agreement were reached were all under the Non-financials; thus the outstanding six (6) are under Financials and need to be ironed out.
With regards to your invitation to the meeting scheduled for Friday 22nd March, 2024, we write to request that the meeting be rescheduled to Monday 25th March, 2024 at 10.00am. This is to enable us adequately invite our officials to be present for deliberations.
