Invitation to emergency organized labour meeting.

Invitation to emergency organized labour meeting.

Recently, many Ghanaians registered their displeasure on the 60% sales of SSNIT to a private company.

This led to a meeting by organised labour groups which resulted to a nationwide strike effective 15th July,2023.

Below is the release letter;

We have followed the developments on the proposed sale of 60% of SSNIT’s stake in four hotels with very keen interest, especially after Organised Labour leadership meeting with the President of the Republic on this matter which took place on 25th June, 2024 at the Jubilee House.

Yesterday, 11th July, 2024, the Honourable Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, who is also responsible for pensions, made a statement in Parliament that NPRA has approved the sale of 60% of SSNIT’s shares in the hotels.

We recall that on 28th June, 2024 the Board of NPRA issued a directive to SSNIT to suspend the negotiation with Rock City Hotel Ltd. We, therefore, find it extremely difficult to understand how and why NPRA would turn around to approve such a flawed deal two weeks after the directive.

Organised Labour would like to reiterate its well-known position that the proposed sale of SSNIT’s shares in the four hotels is not in the best interest of Ghanaian workers.

We, therefore, demand that SSNIT terminates the process immediately.

From Monday, 15th July, 2024 all workers in Ghana must not go to work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of the process for the sale of its shares in the hotels.

Notwithstanding, organized labour has release an invitation to emergency organized labour leadership meeting, which reads;

We would like to invite you to an emergency organized labour leadership meeting on Monday, 15th July 2024 at 10:00am at TUC conference room.

The agenda for this meeting is ” The discontinuation of the sakes of 60% of SSNIT’S SHARES IN HOTELS.

Update will shared from the outcome of this meeting, whether there has been a new development regarding the declaration of strike with respect to the above subject.
