A 16-year-old female general arts student from Mpraeso Senior High School in the Eastern region was allegedly raped by eight boys.
Five of the boys, who are also students at the school, have been arrested and are currently in custody at the Nkwatia Divisional Police Command, while the other three are still at large. Efforts to contact the school’s headmaster, James Affadu, were unsuccessful, but he has confirmed the incident in an audio recording obtained by Onua News.
According to the headmaster, the assault took place on Sunday, October 6, but because he was not present at the time, the school delayed in reporting the matter to the police. He also noted that the school’s disciplinary committee has expelled the eight boys involved and reported the case to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for further investigation.
The mother of the victim, a form two student, revealed on Onua FM’s Yensempa show that her daughter called her on October 16, complaining of feeling unwell and urging her to come to the school immediately. When she arrived on Monday, October 14, her daughter recounted the ordeal. She quickly reported the case to the Mpraeso Police, leading to the arrest of five of the boys.
The girl’s mother, Madam Owusua, stated that her daughter’s condition has improved after receiving medical treatment, but she is calling for GES to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure justice for her daughter.
